Guilford Technical Community College’s Flight Team recently returned from the 2019 Region X flight competition hosted by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA). The competition was held in Danville, Virginia, Oct. 16-19 at the Danville Regional Airport. The G-Tech Flyers captured second place in ground events, third place in flight events, and earned an overall third place finish in the three-day competition.

“Our team this year was small, but they made a big showing in points. Every GTCC Flight Team member scored in the top ten in at least one event,” shared Audrey Floyd, GTCC’s program director for Aviation Management and Career Pilot. “They are a very dedicated group, spending many hours each week striving to improve their skills in ground and flight events. GTCC Flight Team pilots pay hundreds of dollars out-of-pocket to prepare for the event, ensuring they execute the flights safely and are highly competitive against four-year university programs.”
